Great support for Dromore Road Race in its fifth year

January 21, 2014

There was plenty for Omagh Harriers to celebrate after this year’s Dromore 10K and 5K Run/Walk, with runners from the local club clinching top spot in both the men’s and women’s races on Saturday afternoon. Overall there is always great support, especially from residents of the town who compete in one of the three events on offer- the 10K, 5K run or 5K Walk.

Paul Barbour came in first in the men’s 10K race at the annual event, which was sponsored by McDermott’s Pharmacy, while Julie Butler was the leading female competitor. Meanwhile, Finn Valley Athletic Club’s James Speight won the men’s 5K race with a time of 18 minutes and 43 seconds, to repeat his title-winning success at last year’s event. Helen Stockdale, of Clones AC, was the winner of the women’s 5K race, with a time of 21 minutes and eight seconds.

The organisers would like to thank all the volunteers, marshals and the committee, especially those who stood out in the rain and helped to clear up after the event. Over 350 people took part in the three events, which also included a 5K walk.
